I’ve been MIA for a few days as Thanksgiving weekend came and took over! I had a combo of both the holiday and trying to get my new place all set up. Lots of eating, shopping, and buying things for the house so that the contractor we hired has everything he needs. Whoosh…it’s been a crazy long 4 day weekend of just driving around, and spending money. I did a ton of shopping with the goal of whittling down my Christmas list as much as possible also so that I won’t have to worry about that while doing stuff for the house. I got a lot done, but barely had time to relax. Still had a good time though!
Here’s a quick recap of all the craziness that went down.
Thursday – Thanksgiving Day
Went to my in-laws to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Let’s say we had 8 dishes and 3 desserts for 4 people! We were stuffed to the brim and we’re still eating leftovers. Afterwards we went to another get-together with my side of the family that lives here. Some people had to work the next day so it ended early.
We ended up doing some outlet shopping. None of that electronic of appliance craziness. The funny thing is that we set a limit that was higher than normal for us to spend, but we’re so used to being frugal that we didn’t come close to that limit at all! Habits die hard. We did get a few new things for ourselves, but the majority of it was gifts for others. Some good deals going on.
Saturday and Sunday
Oof the rest of the weekend was spent gathering and buying house items. We’re fixing it up a bit and needed to buy a few new items to do so. We spent a lot of time at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Ikea. We spent a lot of time buying, loading the car, unloading the car, driving around, and also waiting for our couch replacements.
This was surely our priciest weekend ever! After years of trying to be frugal and saving money it feels really weird to spend money. It’s back to our old habits again! I have to say it did feel a bit unnatural to actually buy things! A lot of it was gifts for Christmas though, but I have never shopped so much in one weekend. We got a lot done but I feel like I need another weekend just to unwind.
Frugal habits are good ones to have! Even on a weekend like this we spent money on a lot of things but we didn’t buy the most expensive items or buy just for the sake of buying. If we didn’t want to fix up our house we definitely would have only spent a little this weekend. We tried our best to enjoy ourselves in the act of shopping and not just because we spent money. It feels good to know that my money saving habits carry into Thanksgiving weekend.
How did you fare this weekend?
